The International Condom Day with the performance of Fado Bicha, in a simultaneous GAT and AHF initiative in 45 countries.
On Monday, February 13th, throughout the day, at Largo do Intendente, Lisbon, Portugal, GAT Group of Activists in Treatments will mark International Condom Day with animation, distribution of condoms and quick and anonymous screenings for HIV, syphilis, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C. All free. The activities start in the morning and only end in the late afternoon.
GAT joins its international partner AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) in organizing in Lisbon one of several commemorative events “Always in Fashion”, which will take place simultaneously in 45 countries, to highlight the importance of helping people to take control of their lives and their health through free and universal access to sex education and prevention methods such as condoms.
At 10am, screenings and distribution of lubricant (water-based, latex compatible) and condoms, both external / “male” and internal / “female”, will begin. Until 5.30 pm these services will be provided, completely free of charge and anonymously, in a van and tent, as well as by volunteers and mediators who will walk around the Largo and surroundings.
As for the animation, it's guaranteed. At 12:00 we will watch the interactive painting of a mural by PorcaFlor, accompanied by the first performance of DJ Marcolan.
At 3 pm the stage in the middle of the square will host the body performance of ⒶURORⒶ. And soon after, the Fado Bicha concert. The afternoon ends with the second performance of the DJ.
Ricardo Fernandes, executive director of the GAT, argues that “advocating for condom use is more vital than ever, when more than 1 million sexually transmitted infections are reported daily in a world that lags far behind the HIV prevention targets set by UNAIDS. But we can turn the page by working to ensure that everyone has access to condoms, one of the many prevention methods available, no matter where they live. Inland or on the coast, in Portugal or abroad.”
This is an initiative AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) with GAT Group of Activists in Treatments, in partnership with the Lisbon City Council – through the Lisboa Sem SIDA program, and with the Parish Council of Arroios.
