The GAT Group of Activists in Treatment and the AHF AIDS Healthcare Foundation are promoting a meeting with journalists and communication professionals with the aim of analyzing the state of infection in the country, presenting the fundamental demands for achieving the UNAIDS goals by 2030, as well as updating journalists on the latest scientific and social advances in the area of HIV and stigma.
The Meeting to Update the Status of HIV in Portugal, which marks World HIV and AIDS Day, will take place on December 2, between 8:30 a.m. and 12 p.m., at the HF Fénix Lisboa hotel. This meeting aims to strengthen capacities, clarify doubts, and open space for continued collaboration, so that more stories, data, and responsible perspectives reach the public. We believe that informed and engaged journalists are essential allies in building a healthier, fairer, and more conscious society.
In a context where HIV continues to have a profound impact on public health and the lives of thousands of people in Portugal, with the risk of not achieving the UNAIDS goals by 2030, the role of journalism is decisive in transforming perceptions, promoting prevention, and bringing people closer to available health responses, such as early diagnosis, PrEP, and treatment.
It is with this purpose in mind that the Meeting on the Current Status of HIV in Portugal is being held. The program includes activists from GAT, as well as the Director of the National Program for Sexually Transmitted Infections and HIV, Bárbara Flor de Lima, in a presentation on the status of HIV in Portugal, preceded by an analysis by Luís Mendão, Director-General of GAT.
