Aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, the "Almada Fast Track Cities Initiative " aims to contribute to "end the epidemics of AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and neglected tropical diseases, and combat hepatitis, waterborne diseases and other communicable diseases by 2030", as well as "strengthening the prevention and treatment of substance abuse, including drug abuse and harmful use of alcohol.

The Initiative develops activities to ensure sustained access to quality responses to HIV testing, treatment, and prevention, including condoms, pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), in a comprehensive approach that also includes viral hepatitis, tuberculosis and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), as well as harm reduction associated with drug use, mental health promotion and the management of comorbidities associated with ageing with HIV.

The "Almada FTC Initiative" also promotes activities to eliminate HIV-related stigma and discrimination.
