Lusophone Network on Community Health

In 2019, the Coalition Plus and the GAT launched the Lusophone Network initiative to promote partnership work in Portuguese-speaking countries. Coordinated by the GAT, it includes 11 community-based organizations working in public health, namely for HIV and AIDS, viral hepatitis, and tuberculosis, in 8 countries - Portugal, Brazil, Angola, Cabo -Green, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, São Tomé, and Príncipe and Timor-Leste.

Strategic areas of intervention:

Develop, produce and disseminate studies and information based on scientific knowledge:

- Respond to the needs and priorities of key populations where the prevalence of these infections is concentrated;

- Promote and increase the coverage of access to prevention, testing, and linkage to treatment and related healthcare needs.

Advocacy

Promote the active participation of civil society and peers from the Portuguese-speaking community in national and international advocacy networks.

- Ensure representation of people living with HIV and people from key groups most vulnerable to HIV infection, viral hepatitis, and tuberculosis in developing, implementing, and evaluating programs aimed at their communities.

Capacity building and reinforcement of competences

Identify priority areas for training and promoting exchanges between member organizations.
