Presentation of the Stigma Index of People Living with HIV

16 Fevereiro 2023

Presentation of the results of the Stigma Index study on the 1st of March, the day of Zero Discrimination. The event will take place in the afternoon, in Lisbon (time and place to be defined shortly).

The Stigma Index of People Living with HIV, is an international project, having been applied for the first time in Portugal in 2013 and replicated in 2021/22 by the CAD - HIV Anti-Discrimination Center (joint project of Ser+ and GAT), funded by the Directorate-General for Health and in partnership with the National School of Public Health, UNL.

The development of this study makes it possible to measure the stigma and discrimination experienced by people living with HIV in different contexts of their lives and to assess the evolutionary trend of these phenomena, with the ultimate aim of advocating for the defense and promotion of these people's rights.

The main results of this study will be presented, followed by the intervention of a panel of speakers to comment on the referred results, making an analysis of stigma and discrimination, the influence that they can have in the various contexts of the lives of people living with HIV, as well as ways to eliminate them.

The event will be attended by the Secretary of State for Health Promotion, Margarida Tavares, and the Director-General of Health, Graça Freitas.
