International Women's Day: for the right to health, dignity and equality
08 Março 2025On International Women's Day, GAT, in partnership with the AHF (AIDS Healthcare Foundation) and MANAS, reinforces its commitment to defending women's rights, in particular those of women living with HIV, sex workers and migrant women. The fight for equality is only possible with universal access to health, combating discrimination and guaranteeing fundamental rights.
Access to information and health services remains one of the main challenges faced by women in vulnerable situations. The lack of education on HIV prevention and treatment, precarious access to adequate medical services and the stigma associated with HIV and sex work create barriers that limit the autonomy and well-being of thousands of women. In this context, GAT demands concrete measures to ensure that all women, regardless of their migratory status or social background, can access dignified and non-discriminatory healthcare.
Discrimination in health services, the lack of legal assistance for migrant women and the social exclusion of those living with HIV are structural problems that require immediate action. The TAO continues to work to offer direct support and involve communities in building support networks, promoting the confidence needed for women to seek health services without fear of prejudice or reprisals.

This March 8th, GAT and AHF, in partnership with MANAS and GAT IN Mouraria, were present at the feminist march, distributing 100 kits with internal and external condoms, lubricating gel and information about PrEP. Despite the rain, our feminist scarves coloured the demonstration, symbolizing the strength and resistance of the fight for women's rights. The defense of women's rights cannot just be an annual commitment. It is urgent that governments, institutions and civil society work actively to ensure that no woman is left behind. The GAT reaffirms its mission to fight for a fairer world, where health, dignity and equality are a reality for all.
