PrEPafrik - prevents HIV infection

WHAT IS PrEP?

PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) is a medicine that effectively prevents HIV infection. It can be used individually or combined with other prevention methods.

PrEP does not prevent other sexually transmitted infections or pregnancy.

WHO IS PrEP FOR?

For people who are not living with HIV and who:

• Don't always use a condom AND/OR
• Have sex under the influence of drugs AND/OR
• Share injectable consumables AND/OR
• Other cases according to medical indications

HOW TO TAKE PrEP?

One pill a day, every day. Other ways of taking it should be discussed with the doctor.

HOW MUCH DOES PrEP COST?

It's free. The National Health Service bears the costs for people residing in Portugal.

WHERE SHOULD I GO TO ASSESS IF I CAN TAKE PrEP?

Organizations such as the GAT can support you in requesting a consultation or you can go to the public health service closest to you.

ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN:

GAT launched the #PrEPafrik campaign to increase awareness of this pill among African communities, as one of the tools to prevent HIV infection. It is expected that with greater knowledge about PrEP and adherence to it, the number of new cases may decrease.
