The GAT Intendente was formally opened on November 25th, 2016, and is one of the GAT testing centers.
GAT Intendente is a community-based center aimed at people involved in commercial sex (sex workers and clients), trans people, people in migration situations, and people who sleep on the streets for rapid, anonymous, confidential, and a free screening of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), sexual counseling, healthcare referral and offers the following services:
- Availability of condoms (external and internal) and water-based lubricating gel;
- Peer counseling;
- Rapid, anonymous, confidential, and free peer-to-peer screening for HIV infection, hepatitis B virus, hepatitis C virus, and syphilis;
- Community consultation on PrEP, upon registration on the interest form.
- Confidential and free medical appointments for testing other STIs and counseling for people on pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) or interested in starting it by prior arrangement;
- Administration of vaccines and injectable antibiotics prescribed in the medical consultation;
- Referral, with the option of follow-up, to healthcare in the National Health Service – including people with treatment already started in another country;
- Outreach service in Lisbon apartments.
Although the center is aimed at these groups, it is open to the general population (to the extent of its capacity to respond).
