History and Statutes

The GAT – Portuguese Activist Group on Treatments was founded in 2001 and is a structure of individual membership and cooperation between people from different communities and organizations infected or affected by HIV. It is a non-governmental, non-profit organization (IPSS), with registrations number 11/2004 and headquartered in Lisbon.

At the time of its founding, GAT was called the Portuguese Activist Group on Treatments on HIV/AIDS – Pedro Santos. Pedro Santos was one of the first activists and represented the organization at the 4th National Congress on AIDS opening table, promoted by APEC in March 2002. Upon legal formalization, GAT took the name, Pedro Santos. Unfortunately, Pedro passed away in September 2002.
